effectively schedule 1200 tools across 128 presses for an
injection molding facility.

The program had to result in a more efficient
and effective scheduling operation, provide the timely shop
floor information necessary to increase productivity, and
suggest alternatives based on capacity constraints.

IET developed a software solution that
provided the manufacturer with the ability to schedule family
and dedicated tools across primary alternate presses with
minimal setups, anticipate mold changes, analyze and report
press capacity and tool usage, report on productivity, machine
utilization, production, scrap and rework, and analyze press
capacity across three separate facilities to evaluate shipping
of molds and parts.

Weekly production scheduling time was
reduced from three days to 10 minutes.
The need for a full-time scheduler was eliminated with the
shift supervisor taking responsibility for scheduling.
Set-up time was reduced by an annual average of 15 percent
and on-time delivery rate was improved to 99.8 percent.
